What Is Natural?
65% of people believe a personal care product labeled "natural" should contain 95% — 100% natural ingredients. *
Most contain far less.
At Burt's Bees, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of natural. We believe truly natural personal care and natural skin care products are the most effective products out there for you, the environment and The Greater Good. Discover the beauty of well-being.
Natural Ingredients
Natural ingredients are profoundly effective, inspiring to your senses, better for the environment and beneficial to your overall well-being. Natural ingredients nurture our skin and hair with wholesome nutrients that our body chemistry is familiar with, working in harmony with our bodies.
You will never find any Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates or Petrochemicals in any Burt's Bees products.
We firmly believe that natural ingredients must come from a renewable/plentiful resource found in nature, with absolutely no petroleum compounds. This includes ingredients found in fauna (animal), flora (plant), and minerals. Rest assured, though, the animal part is substances like beeswax and honey.

Plus, natural ingredients work. In fact, many synthetic ingredients are modeled after natural ones. For example, willow bark extract contains natural salicylic acid, and is the main ingredient found in our Natural Acne Solutions products. While other brands may choose to use the synthetic alternative because it may be cheaper or easier to produce, we go straight to the natural source for our ingredients.

Natural Processes
Ingredients are only one part of what makes a product natural. Equally important is how those ingredients are processed.
We prefer to use minimal processing including processes like distillation/condensation, extraction/steamed distillation/pressure cooking and hydrolysis.
Our goal is to maximize purity without potentially negative effects on the ingredients. Simply put, our goal is to keep natural ingredients, natural.

The Natural Standard
We’ve worked with other companies and organizations in the personal care products industry to define “natural.” Now, there is one standard for products carrying the designation “natural” on their labels.
