Colony Collapse Disorder
In 2007, we made it a priority to educate the nation about a cause that's near and dear to us: Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). CCD is a mysterious disorder causing the disappearance of millions of honeybees that if left unsolved, could affect the availability of the food we eat.
In partnership with the NAPPC, we began funding research for the Honeybee Health Improvement Project. Also, in June 2008, we spoke to U.S. Congress to heighten awareness of this issue and request additional funding.
To get the word out to consumers and fund the research, we dedicated a promotional lip balm and a gift set to the cause, redirecting 5 percent of profits to NAPPC. As part of the effort, we've given away over 95,000 wildflower seed packets, resulting in millions of flowers planted around the country and thousands of consumers educated about the life-giving role that bees play in a healthy, balanced eco-system.
In addition, we produced a 60 second Public Service Announcement (PSA) with Burt, outlining basic action steps everybody can take. Our PSA aired across the country as a lead-in to Paramount Pictures' Bee Movie and as part of our 2008 Bee-utify Your World Mobile Tour.
