Burt's Bees Natural Toothpastes are natural, effective toothpastes clinically proven to improve oral health. With regular brushing, they prevent cavities (fluoride versions only), reduce plaque, whiten teeth by removing surface stains, and freshen breath. They feature natural ingredients like cranberry extract, which emerging science suggests may help to inhibit certain plaque-causing bacteria from adhering to teeth, as well as calcium and phosphorous to promote strong, healthy teeth. Our toothpastes are SLS-free and don't contain any artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, or sweeteners. We're also the first toothpaste brand to be certified by the Natural Products Association.
All of our toothpaste formulas help whiten teeth naturally. We use 100% natural whitening agents like calcium sodium phosphosilicate and silica. Both work by gently polishing away surface stains for brighter, whiter teeth naturally. Our Whitening Toothpaste, available in fluoride and fluoride-free options, features even more whitening power and is clinically proven to brighten teeth in just two weeks.
Unlike other toothpastes on the market today, our natural toothpastes do not contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), which is commonly used in mainstream toothpastes as a foaming agent. We use sodium cocoyl glutamate, a natural foaming agent, instead. Additionally other toothpastes contain, propylene glycol, a synthetic petrochemical, used to help retain water and maintain consistency. We use vegetable glycerin, naturally derived from plants, instead.
Tartar is a mineral deposit that forms when plaque hardens on teeth's surface. All of our toothpastes are clinically proven to improve oral health. With regular brushing, our toothpastes will help you reduce plaque, which in turn helps teeth stay healthy and avoid the formation of tartar. Once tartar is formed, it can only be addressed by professional treatment.
Simply put, we want to provide consumers with the choice. Some consumers prefer fluoride-free, safe to swallow formulas, especially for small children still learning how to brush. Others value the importance of ensuring that children develop strong, healthy teeth, which fluoride is known to aid. Fluoride is also the only FDA monograph active ingredient indicated for cavity prevention.
No, our fluoride-free natural toothpastes are not indicated for the prevention of cavities. However, all of our Burt's Bees® Natural Toothpastes are clinically proven to improve oral health. Their unique plaque-fighting formula contains natural ingredients like cranberry extract, which emerging evidence suggests may help to inhibit certain plaque-causing bacteria from adhering to teeth, as well as calcium and phosphorous to promote strong, healthy teeth.
Xylitol is a natural sweetener derived from corn that does not promote tooth decay. In our toothpaste formulas, xylitol provides a sweet, natural flavor.
In short, the Natural Product Association's Natural Seal is an easy way to tell whether a product meets the highest standard of natural. That's because to use the seal, products must meet and be certified under The Natural Standard for Personal Care Products, a strict set of guidelines that define what natural is—and what it isn't. When you see the Natural Seal on personal care products, you know the ingredients and processes used to make the product its on are certified natural. All Burt's Bees® Natural Toothpastes carry this seal, naturally.
